Who Are You?
I’m a 38-year-old father of 4. I have 3 daughters and 1 son. My youngest is my daughter who was born in May of 2010. My oldest is my daughter who was born in November of 1994. I had my oldest daughter a few years out of high school with a girlfriend. A few years after that I married another woman and had 2 more children. In 2000 I divorced and stayed unmarried until December 2007 when I married my lovely, intelligent wife and best friend. We did date for some time before we were married. Essentially, I have 4 children with 3 different women. I love them all. I provide for them all, including ensuring they all have proper health care. That is important to me, especially in this environment of heath care battling.
“I’m a 38-year-old father of 4.”
The reason I call myself a Modern American Man is simple: In these modern times, a man must be the very thing that is appropriate to the American climate. He must be inventive, sensitive, strong, and present within his family and friends. He must plan with the help of his wife (If he has one) or life partner because of the uncertainty that may lie ahead in the world. He must also be disciplined to know that excess does not bring happiness, but the potential for more debt. That particular point resonates with me strongly: Not living beyond my means.
Being a Modern American Man means knowing when to go with the flow, knowing when to take a stand, knowing when to compromise, knowing when to lead, and knowing when to listen. More of who I am, what I think and feel, as well as my sarcastic, cynical humor will resonate in my blog. I am a Modern American Man. I have many of the same problems as you as well as a few you may not have. I have many of the joys as you as well as things that uniquely bring me joy. Welcome to my blog. I hope you enjoy it and give willing feedback or comments.
Why are you doing this blog?
I’ve been writing since I was about 14 years old when my father introduced me to Norwegian author Knut Hamsun. I was inspired by story telling. I’ve written short stories and a few short scripts that have been shot as video shorts. I’ve started several blogs over the years but could never find the motivation to continue writing them due to a lacking plan of action.
In taking the blog name Modern American Man, I’m hoping to provide a place for all people to see that they are not the only ones who have the type of thoughts I do. I’m also hoping to add some laughter as well. As I stated above: I like to be both sarcastic and cynical. I hope people can recognize when I’m doing those things.
